History in brief: Councelor P.C. Rettig had Restaurant Samppalinna built in 1865 on the bank of River Aura. First, it was first serving the passengers of the upper steamboat harbour, which was located nearby. Architect was C.J. von Heideken and the building was strongly influenced by Swiss architect style.
